Zohran Mamdani Pledges a 'Dawn' for New York City in First Address
On his first day in his new role, Zohran Mamdani pledged to “reinvent” the metropolis, declaring “a fresh chapter” and an audacious start to his administration.
An Unprecedented Mayor
The 34-year-old democratic socialist, who just a year ago remained a virtually unknown state assemblyman, is the city's first mayor born in Africa. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be take the oath of office using the Islamic holy text.
